The 4 Rules of Product Layering
Does it really matter if you apply your face oil before your moisturizer? Or if you sometimes ignore a certain rule of product layering? The answer is yes. You might have the best skincare products at your disposal, but if you do not apply them in the correct order, they can’t do their magic on your skin. Do not worry, in today’s blog post, we will guide you through the 4 rules of product layering, and how to properly apply them to your skincare routine.
Product Layering in the Morning
You don’t have to wash your face in the morning, some skin does fine with a splash of water alone. But you may want to if your skin type produces a lot of oil or if there’s the residue left on your skin from the products you used the night before. Choose a non-drying, sulfate-free cleanser such as The Dermalactives Purifying Cleansing Gel so it can remove all oil-based debris, and impurities left from the night before. All while refreshing your skin and keeping it healthy so you can start the day feeling fresh.
Toner can be helpful since it ensures that all traces of cleanser are removed from your skin. Use The Dermalactives Purifying Toner to prepare your skin to receive the full nourishment of creams or moisturizers that come next, while giving it an extra protective layer and a healthy glow.
3. Eye Cream
Since the eye area doesn’t have oil glands to help keep it moisturized, you’ll want to give it some hydration as soon as you’re done cleansing and exfoliating. Feel free to use either your regular moisturizer, if you tolerate it around your eyes, or specialized eye cream or eye serum. The Dermalactives Eye Cream comes in handy at this point. This highly active cream targets the delicate skin around the eyes. It nourishes, restores damage, de-puffs, and assists in preventing further signs of aging.
Next comes the moisturizer, this step is optional for some. We want to include it in our rules of product layering because not every skin is the same. If you have oily skin you can skip this step. But, otherwise, applying it can make a huge difference. Look for creams, like The Dermalactives Purifying Day Cream. A cream that is rich in sunflower, grape, and kernel oil that will penetrate deep into the skin, hydrating and purifying it. Working each dermal layer fighting against dryness and daily environmental damages. Wake up every morning to nourished, fresh and radiant skin.
Product Layering in the Evening
1. Makeup remover
If you were wearing makeup, sunscreen, or any silicon-based products, an evening double cleanse is a must. This process contains two steps, first step, clean your face with micellar water, to remove most of the makeup, the second step, the same as in the morning, use The Dermalactives Purifying Cleansing Gel.
2. Treatment Serum
Did you know you can apply vitamin C at night? Some dermatologists think it’s even more effective at that time, so you can incorporate it here if that fits better with your routine. If anti-aging is your main goal, go with L-ascorbic acid, ethyl ascorbic acid, or magnesium ascorbyl phosphate. Niacinamide and copper peptides are excellent choices, too. These ingredients can be found in The Dermalactives Illuminating Lifting Neck Serum. The lifting neck serum is specially formulated to plump, lift, and hydrate your skin while improving its elasticity revealing a youthful neck and jawline.
Some retinoids have a thicker texture that allows you to skip night cream, but if you do not fall into this category, this rule of product layering applies to you. You can use your favorite moisturizer – The Dermalactives Purifying Night Cream. It penetrates deep into the skin to hydrate while purifying each dermal layer fighting against dryness and daily environmental damages.
4. Face Oil
Face oils seal in all the ingredients and moisture you just applied to your face to keep them from evaporating quickly. On their own, oils are not actually that moisturizing, but when you layer them over other products, they help increase your routine’s efficacy while also leaving the skin soft and smooth. That is why oils should always be the last step in your skincare regimen.
